You know the drill: You open a folder on your computer and then have to search within the window to find the file or document you’re looking for. Depending on how many items you have in the folder — and how they’re organized — this can take two or three seconds, or it can take 15 or 20 seconds, or longer.

What to do? Try grouping the contents of your folder by file type. Most people find that it dramatically speeds up the time it takes their eyes to scan the folder contents and find what they’re looking for.
